Malaysia
Training during the off-season has always been a vital part of my development as a youth footballer. Training in Malaysia with Coach Jason, where the weather is consistently hot and humid, adds a unique set of challenges — but also some hidden advantages. My experience has taught me that off-season training is not just about staying fit; it’s about preparing smarter, adapting to the environment, and growing both physically and mentally.
Adapting to the Heat and Humidity
Malaysia’s climate means that every training session feels like a test of endurance. The intense humidity increases how much we sweat and how fast we get fatigued. At first, it was hard — I felt slower, more exhausted, and even dizzy during drills. But over time, I realized this was forcing me to build greater stamina and mental toughness.
Focusing on Recovery and Hydration
Because of the climate, recovery became a top priority during the off-season. I started paying more attention to:
Building Strength and Conditioning
The off-season gave me the time to work on my physical strength, which I couldn’t focus on as much during the busy season. I spent time in the gym doing resistance training and worked on my sprint speed and agility. The humid conditions made even short sessions intense — but Coach Jason trained me to stay focused even when my body felt like giving up.
Improving My Technical Skills
Without the stress of matches, I could focus on improving my weaker foot, first touch, and passing accuracy. I often trained early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid peak heat, which made sessions more manageable.
Staying Mentally Sharp and Motivated
Off-seasons can be boring if you don’t have a plan. But setting goals — like “improve my weak foot” or “build more stamina” — kept me focused. The Malaysian climate sometimes made me want to skip training, but I knew that consistency would give me an edge when the season returned.
Conclusion
Training in Malaysia’s humid off-season is tough — but it has shaped me into a more resilient and well-rounded footballer. I’ve learned how to listen to my body, train smart, and push myself through discomfort. Most importantly, it taught me that the off-season isn’t just a break — it’s where champions are made.
Special thanks to Coach Jason ( my personal trainer in Malaysia) and the team boys (Titan United Futbol Academy) for the letting me train in their academy.
